Kundalini & Hatha Yoga in Vienna

Matsya Yoga is present in Vienna through its partner studio: at Sechshauser Strasse 26 in the 15th district, teachers of our lineage regularly teach Hatha Yoga and Kundalini Yoga in the rooms of Yoga Mula, a few minutes' walk from the Gumpendorfer Strasse underground station.

If you are looking for a yoga studio in Vienna that goes beyond physical exercise, you will find a quiet, clear practice here: static, breath-centred and carried by a living tradition – classical Hatha Yoga in the lineage of Swami Vidyananda, Kundalini Yoga after Dhirendra Brahmachari, and the philosophy of Śiva Tantra.

Our certified yoga teacher trainings (RYT® 200 and RYT® 300, Yoga Alliance) take place at our main house in the Wachau valley – about an hour by car or train from Vienna. For students based in Vienna we also offer training modules in the city on request. Our programmes are eligible for funding throughout Austria.

Our Teachers in Vienna

Nicole

Nicole founded Yoga Mula and teaches traditional Hatha Yoga and Kundalini Yoga there, as well as Yoga Nidra. Her teaching is calm, precise and drawn entirely from classical practice – a good place for anyone who wants to meet yoga in Vienna in its original form.

Moritz

Moritz teaches Kundalini Yoga with particular attention to breath and sound. His classes often close with meditative playing on an old Viennese zither – a rare and very personal meeting of yoga and sound.

Sabina

Sabina combines mindful practice with focused breathing technique. Her Meditative Yoga brings together gentle Sukshma Vyayama exercises after Dhirendra Brahmachari and selected asanas – the same source our own Kundalini Yoga draws from. Her classes are suitable for all levels.

Yoga Classes in Vienna

Our Vienna classes take place at Yoga Mula, Sechshauser Strasse 26, 1150 Vienna – a quiet, warm room in the middle of the 15th district, a few minutes' walk from the Gumpendorfer Strasse underground station.

Classes are taught by teachers who stand in our lineage and carry this style on in Vienna. No previous experience is needed: newcomers find a calm entry in the Hatha classes, while longer-term practitioners find depth in the Kundalini classes.

Current schedules and registration are available directly at Yoga Mula.

Participants of our workshops and yoga teacher trainings in the Wachau can stay overnight close to the training venue.

Our Lineage

The heart of our lineage leads back to Sri Aurobindo and his vision of Integral Yoga. Sri Aurobindo was a revolutionary, a philosopher and a visionary. In 1968, on the basis of his ideas, Mira Alfassa founded Auroville – a vision of a society in which continuous inner growth, eternal inner youth, ecological sustainability and unity with the soul could be lived. This unity of soul and daily life is to be made possible through the yoga of surrender to the Divine Mother.

Ānandamaẏī - Chaitanyamaẏī - Satyāmaẏī - Pāramī is our mantra, and it expresses that spirit. It is the mantra of our school, which is founded on this wish: to make life fuller through yoga. Complete and whole.

Our Hatha Yoga practice is based on the yoga of Swami Vidyananda, a follower of Sri Aurobindo and also a student of Swami Satyananda Saraswati. In its practical part our lineage is therefore rooted in the Satyananda tradition, but on a broader philosophical basis.

At the same time we explore the origins of Kundalini Yoga after Dhirendra Brahmachari. This yoga is static, very still, expansive and beautiful.

We study and teach meditation and the origins of Kaula Tantra, inspired by our teacher and tantric scholar Mark S. G. Dyczkowski, a student of Swami Lakshmanjoo.

Our Path

A better existence for everyone

Especially in demanding times like these, yoga should be accessible to everyone, so that our lives can evolve both as individuals and as a community. We have consciously decided to believe in this BOLDLY, and we encourage everyone to develop a vision of a better future together with us and to let it become real through the power of yoga.

Yoga – a path to wisdom

We believe that wisdom is a precondition for real insight.

In our time, bare knowledge is often seen as the most important instrument in life. Our schools therefore often teach raw facts, but not the knowledge of how. Yet what use is knowledge if we do not understand how it is meant to serve our lives? What good is strength if we cannot put it in the service of all?

Yoga is such a path to wisdom, a path to the knowledge of why and how. It is a necessary complement to our Western mind, which thirsts for meaning. This path leads inward, into the visionary space of the heart, from which the knowledge of a sustainable, fulfilled life can rise.

In our academy we look for this wisdom, and for the knowledge that serves as a bridge towards it.

Today

We always discover these treasures of yoga from the perspective of the present. The challenges of our time – ecological, social and spiritual – are the measure by which we distil the knowledge that has relevance for us here and now.

Yoga is here for today – for you

The philosophy and practice of yoga and tantra is a source of insight of immeasurable value, with unmatched depth. This philosophy is meant to inspire us to find the right actions for today.

Yoga is not a dusty philosophy of the past. Yoga is a gift of wisdom for the now, here and today.

Oṃ

Ānanda-mayī

Oṃ – She, the Delight

(We invoke supreme bliss)

Chaitanya-maẏī

She, the Consciousness

(We invoke supreme consciousness)

Satyā-maẏī

She, the Truth

(We invoke supreme truth)

Pāramī

She, the Supreme

(Eternally)

All Nature dumbly calls to her alone

To heal with her feet the aching throb of life

And break the seals on the dim soul of man

And kindle her fire in the closed heart of things.
