New Horizons 2026 – Kundalini Yoga School

New Horizons 2026 – Kundalini Yoga School

New horizons in the year 2026

As a Kundalini Yoga school, we have so far offered our Hatha and Kundalini Yoga training courses at our premises in Vienna.

Now we are opening new doors and creating new opportunities in the Wachau and also in Vienna, where we can organize our yoga training courses in a new, exciting way.

Discover with us what exciting experiences await you!

New features for our Hatha and Kundalini yoga school

We breathe nature, art and beauty. The right space for our Academy of Hatha and Kundalini Yoga is one that takes us out of our everyday consciousness and allows us to immerse ourselves in new experiences. By leaving the familiar, we can also break through the mental patterns that keep us stuck.

Rossatz at the beautiful Danube offer exactly the environment we need to open up our inner spaces. Our school for Hatha and Kundalini yoga offers a place where you can remember what lies deep within you.

Everything on the outside also moves the inside – this means that the outer flow can also make the inside flow.

Panta rhei – whenever it flows, there is life.

New spaces in the Wachau

The Wachau offers numerous new spaces in which our yoga school can develop, like our beautiful yoga room that invites you to learn and experiment.

We also have three apartments, which can be booked as individual apartments for the yoga training courses, as well as an inner courtyard that invites you to enjoy the silence – under a wonderful cherry tree that blossoms in spring and gives fruit in summer.

As a special addition, there is also an outdoor sauna, which gives our school a touch of spa atmosphere.

New Studio in 1150 Vienna

We have successfully taught Kundalini yoga and Hatha yoga in Vienna for many years. Our yoga is something special, away from the mainstream – we go where few dare to go.

It was therefore important for our community to continue to have a location in Vienna. The new location is self-managed by the Matsya community and is located at Sechshauser Straße 26, right next to the Gumpendorfer Straße subway station.

There, all visitors will find the same welcoming atmosphere as before at our old location in Vienna. In addition, we will be offering a new format for teacher training that we have never offered before in this form.

New training format

Our school’s intensive teacher trainings will continue to take place in the beautiful Wachau region – there you will find the peace and quiet you need to fully immerse yourself in yoga for a whole month.

Our new location in Vienna now makes it possible to offer teacher training courses at weekends throughout the year. This means that we are now also inviting working people who do not have time during the week to attend teacher training.

Both formats can be combined with each other: The weekend format is ideal during periods of work commitments, while training can be attended during the week in the Wachau during vacation periods.

We look forward to welcoming you to our new yoga school and on our journey into the heart of Hatha and Kundalini Yoga!

Start your certified yoga teacher training in Vienna with Matsya Yoga - intensive Hatha Yoga training, Kundalini Kriyas, mantras and practical training.

New training content

With the opening of our new yoga school in the Wachau region, we will also continue to develop the content of our training courses. It has always been important to us to explore the roots of Hatha and Kundalini Yoga, which go back to Tantra.

Thanks to our teacher Mark Dyczkowski, we can now delve even deeper than before into the philosophy and practice of Shiva Tantra in the Wachau.

Until now, it has often been difficult to engage intensively with this content in Vienna. The urban atmosphere of our previous yoga studio and the diverse audience in Vienna called for a more commercial yoga in order to connect to people how they needed it.

The Wachau, on the other hand, now offers precisely that protected space that enables us to delve deeper into philosophy and open new doors to spiritual practice.

The ritual of the Trika Tantra and the study of source texts such as the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra are our way of experiencing the essence of Tantra.

Visit us in the Wachau and discover new dimensions of the practice together with us.

Namaste,
Clemens

The Fish in Yoga – Matsyendra Natha

The Fish in Yoga – Matsyendra Natha

The story of Matsyendra

The following story is from the Caturaśīti-Siddha-Pravṛitti or The Life Stories of the Eighty-Four Siddhas by Abhaya Datta.

At some distance from the land of Kāmarūpa, a fisherman names Minapa lived on the shores of Ita Ocean. One day he sailed out to the sea and cast his nets into the waters. An enormous fish was caught in his net. The fish, being far stronger than the fisherman, dragged him into the sea and swallowed him whole. Miraculously, the blessed fisherman survived in the belly of the fish waiting for his destiny to come…

At this time, the Goddess Pārvatī asked Śiva to teach her how to achieve freedom in this dark age – kaliyuga on earth. Śiva warned her that this knowledge is too secret to be taught indiscriminately among the people, so he asked her to descend to the ocean floor where they would be free from prying ears. There, in the ocean depths, the fish (and the fisherman within) swam close by the god and goddess.

When Śiva began teaching this knowledge of the way of Yoga, Pārvatī fell asleep, unable to listen to all the secrets. After a while Śiva asked her, ‘Are you still listening?’ The fisherman, hidden in the belly of the fish replied, ‘Yes, I am!’, so Śiva resumed his instruction on hatha yoga. When Śiva finally finished, Pārvatī awoke and apologized for having fallen asleep, to which Śiva replied, ‘If you haven’t heard the teaching, then there will be no hatha yoga in the world! He paused for a moment and then asked, ‘Who was it then who told me they were listening?’

Minapa emphatically replied, ‘I was listening!’ Śiva realized that he had taught a new disciple and that there would be hatha yoga in the world. However, Śiva was angry as the the knowlegde was meant for the Goddess and not for a mortal man. So he said: ‘That what is for the Gods demands mortality as a sacrifice’. ‘Therefore, you must practice in the belly of the fish till you reach immortality.’

For twelve long years, the fisherman diligently practiced his sādhanā in the belly of the fish as instructed by the primal guru. Years later, the fish was caught by local fishermen and cut open. The imprisoned former fisherman and yogi emerged shining.

He became the “Lord of the fish”, Matsyendra Nāth.

He taught the world the secrets of haṭha, and gave the blessing of the primal teacher.

One has to descend to the bottom of one’s inner sea, to listen to the secret voice of the primal guru residing there. Carried with power of persistence, one day, one will rise again from the darkness of the deep waters as a new master.

The lord of the fish

The story of Matsyendra is that of a man who must descend into the deep sea of the unconscious in order to find the part of himself that embodies the divine.

Matsyendra receives the knowledge that lies beyond normal life, it is “stolen” from the gods. This means that it takes the normal mortal from the realm of the individual into the universal. The price for this is mortality.

Thus the divine demands the tribute of the earthly. In this way, all true growth is a transformation, a burning of the old in the belly of the fish and a rebirth of the greater self.

Matsyendra sacrifices himself and gains eternal life. The fish is the vehicle of this transformation, it is the immersion into the depths of existence.

The Fish in Christianity

The Fish in Christianity

The symbolism of the fish in Christianity

Before we can turn to the symbolism of the fish in yoga, it makes sense to understand the fish as a symbol of Christianity.

Ultimately, the paths of spiritual practice are just different names of one and the same path that has one and the same goal.

In Christianity, the fish symbolizes the gift of the divine. Jesus himself is said to have said that all people should be “fishermen” – bringing people together in the heart of God.

At the same time, the fish in the Bible symbolizes food, which in a figurative sense is food for the soul: the word of the transcendental.

In the biblical story of the multiplication of fish, Jesus feeds a large number of people with just a few fish. The multiplication of the fish here stands for the richness of faith in the universal; the nourishment provided by the fish is the nourishment of the soul that springs from it.

The fish is deeply rooted in Christianity. Its symbol was an identifying mark for the early Christians – and even today it can be said to be a sign for all those who believe in devotion to the divine.

Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr – that means “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior. The Greek word “Ichthys“, the “fish”, is an acronym for Jesus, the prophet of love.

The fish appears in the Bible not only as a symbol of the gift of divine love, but also as a sign of deep inner transformation.

In this function, we encounter the fish in the story of Jonah: God appears to Jonah and gives him the task of helping others who lost faith in God to find the right path again. However, Jonah ignores God’s word and thus turns against his own destiny.

Jonah, now on a boat carries the misfortune in his heart, chaos arises in the form of a storm and his companions are forced to throw him into the sea as the storm rooted in Jonah’s heart could kill them all.  Jonah drowns in the sea and is swallowed by a fish; at the bottom of the ocean, he turns to God in prayer for three days and nights, after which the fish spits him out. Thereafter, Jonah follows God’s command, and preaches the word, the voice of his destiny.

The fish appears here as the messenger of transformation, and the belly of the fish is the place where Jonah’s transformation takes place. The fish, which dives into the depths and is one with the ocean, is the messenger of God.

There is a very similar story in Hatha Yoga: here it is a fisherman who, in times of crisis, undergoes a miraculous transformation in the belly of a fish. Read more here…
