Our Lineage

The heart of our line goes back to Sri Aurobindo and his vision of Integral Yoga. Sri Aurobindo was a revolutionary, philosopher and visionary. In 1968, Mira Alfassa founded Auroville on the basis of Sri Aurobindo’s ideas, Mira Alfassa founded Auroville – a social vision in which continuous inner growth, eternal inner youth, ecological sustainability and unity with the soul should be lived. This unity of the soul and daily life should be made possible through the yoga of devotion to the divine mother.

Ānandamaẏī – Chaitanyamaẏī – Satyāmaẏī – Pāramī is our mantra that expresses this spirit. It is the mantra of our school that is based on this spirit, the desire, to make life fuller through yoga. Complete and whole.

Our hatha yoga practice is based on the yoga of Swami Vidyananda, a follower of Sri Aurobindo and also a disciple of Swami Satyananda Saraswati. So in the practical part of our lineage we are rooted in the tradition of Satyananda Yoga , but with a broader philosophical basis.

At the same time, we explore the origins of Kundalini Yoga according to Dhirendra Brahmachari. This yoga is static, very still, expansive and beautiful.

We learn and teach meditation and the origins of Kaula Tantra, inspired by our teacher Mark S. G. Dyczkowski, a student of Swami Laskamnjoo.

Our Way

Especially in challenging times like these, yoga should be accessible to everyone, to further the evolution of our lives as individuals and as a community. We have made the decision to courageously believe in it and encourage everyone, to join us in developing a vision for a better future and make it a reality with the power of yoga.

Yoga – A path to wisdom

We believe that wisdom is a prerequisite for true insight.

In this day and age, bare knowledge is often seen as the most important tool in life. As a result, our schools often teach only raw facts, but not the knowledge of how. But what good is knowledge if we don’t understand, how it should serve our lives? What good is power if we cannot use it in the service of all?

Yoga is one such path to wisdom, a path to knowing the why and the how. It is a necessary addition to our western mind that thirsts for meaning. This path leads inwards, into the visionary space of the heart, from which the knowledge of a sustainable, fulfilled life can arise.

In our academy, we search for this wisdom and the knowledge, that serves as a bridge to it.

Yoga for today and now

We always discover these treasures of yoga from the perspective of the present. The challenges of the present, ecologically, socially and spiritually, are the yardstick from which we distil the knowledge that is relevant to us here and now.

The philosophy and practice of yoga and tantra is an invaluable source of insight, with unrivaled depth of insight. This philosophy should inspire us to find the right actions for today.

Yoga is not a dusty philosophy of the past, but yoga is a gift of wisdom for the here and now.

Oṃ

Ānanda-mayī

Oṃ – She, the Delight

(We invoke supreme bliss)

Chaitanya-maẏī

She, the Consciousness

(We invoke supreme consciousness)

Satyā-maẏī

She, the Truth

(We invoke supreme truth)

Pāramī

She, the Supreme

(Eternally)

All Nature dumbly calls to her alone

To heal with her feet the aching throb of life

And break the seals on the dim soul of man

And kindle her fire in the closed heart of things.
